SEVERAL roads have been closed due to a police incident in Darlington town centre.
A section of the A68 between Bondgate and Northgate has been closed, along with King Street and Kendrew Street as well as a section of Gladstone Street between North Lodge Terrace and North Road.
A Durham Police spokesman said: “A 100-metre cordon has been put in place and residents are being evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious package at a property in Kendrew Street.
“Explosives experts from Catterick Garrison are on their way to the scene to assess the situation.
“The road closures are expected to be in place for some time and drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible.”
