Just weeks after ceremonies were held in Carlisle, students of the University of Cumbria have taken graduated thousands of miles away.
FAME International College is located in Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Since 2014 the International College has been an Associate Partner of the university delivering two honours degrees since 2016.
The partnership sees 100 students to have completed their studies at FAME studying the University’s BA (Hons) International Business Management or BSc (Hons) Business Management, Accounting and Finance each year.
The first cohort of 49 students to graduate received their awards from university Vice Chancellor Professor Julie Mennell (Dec 8) at a ceremony held at the college.
Four graduands were conferred first class honours, 22 received second class honours upper division, while 21 obtained second class honours lower division.
Professor Mennell said: “This is an illustration of the reach and reputation of the University of Cumbria. Not only are we able to provide life changing education in the UK but our courses are in demand in a part of the world that we believe is interested in learning more about the university and the region of the UK where we are based.”
Also present at the ceremony were FAME International College’s chief executive officer David Chew and head of academic Voon Boo Khoon.
Dr Caroline Rouncefield, Head of Department Business, Law and Social Science and David McGregor, Collaborative Provision Manager also attend the event.
Professor Mennell added: “This kind of collaboration is key and I look forward to fostering links between the UK and Malaysia in the future.”
