MP to hold Ulverston banking crisis meeting after Santander closure shock

BARROW and Furness MP John Woodcock is bringing together the people of Ulverston to discuss access to banking following today’s announcement that Santander will be the latest banking outlet in the town is to close.

He said: “It is really bad news that the company has earmarked its New Market Street branch for closure.

“It is the end of a valuable community lifeline and I feel sure that many customers – especially elderly people – will be wondering how they will do their banking in the future. I will be speaking to the company about how exactly they plan to help vulnerable customers and support staff facing redundancy.

“This is the latest in a list of banks pulling out of Ulverston – I want to bring the community together with representatives of the banks to discuss how residents will be able to keep accessing banking services in these worrying circumstances.”

Details of the meeting will be announced at a later date.
