Dearham murder accused appears in court

A man appeared in court today (Thursday) charged with the murder of a 69-year-old woman from Dearham, West Cumbria.

Lee Sowerby, 45, of Honister Drive, Workington, appeared from custody flanked by security-guards, at North and West Cumbria Magistrates court in Rickergate, Carlisle. 

The allegation follows the death of his mother Mary Annie Sowerby, 69, known as (Annie) at her home in Main Street, Dearham, on Tuesday, January 22.

Sowerby spoke to confirm his personal details, no-plea was taken.

District Judge Gerald Chalk remanded Sowerby in custody to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on Friday 24 January.
