Cumbria County Council’s Eden Local Committee this week supported an allocation of £5,000 to Penrith Cricket Club to replace the club’s ageing changing facilities.
This will enable the club to continue to run a wide range of cricket club activities and sessions in Penrith, and to compete nationally.
Cllr David Whipp, Chairman of Eden Local Committee, said: “Organised sport is a great way for young people to stay fit and healthy as well as encouraging them to develop their social skills. Penrith Cricket Club offers fantastic opportunities to the residents of Penrith and Eden, and we are delighted to support them to continue to provide opportunities for local youngsters to participate in cricket.”
The funding award was granted from the committee’s 0-19 Youth Grants funding stream which is available for community groups and not for profit organisations engaging in projects or initiatives with a child or youth focus.
