Horse rescued after becoming trapped in mud

At 5:11pm yesterday, Saturday 9 February one fire engine from Kirkby Stephen and one from Kendal went to assist with reports of a horse that had become trapped in deep mud at Ravenstonedale, Kirkby Stephen.

Firefighters also requested the 4×4 from Sedbergh due to terrain and location of incident.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Firefighters using the large animal rescue equipment along with digging out techniques rescued one horse from a deep muddy bog.

“The mountain rescue team were also in attendance along with a vet.

“Fire crews were detained at scene for approximately two hours.”
