Formerly known as Oxleys, Underscar Spa boasts a fresh new look and feel courtesy of a stylish refurbishment and a new brand identity.
Sitting in a tranquil spot on the Southern slopes of Skiddaw, looking out over Derwentwater to the fells beyond, Underscar Spa and Bistro is located just outside the bustling market town of Keswick, but feels like it could be million miles away.
There has been a dramatic growth in the wellness market over recent years, driven in part, by the millennial generation who are choosing to spend their money on meaningful experiences rather than ‘stuff’. This has led to a greater awareness and appreciation of the benefits of a holistic approach to health, which considers mind, body, spirit and emotions and how they affect the wellbeing of a person.
Popular as a retreat from the stresses of daily life Underscar Spa offers holistic spa treatments using high quality natural products chosen for their purity and efficacy. Brands such as Decléor, Neom Organics, Jessica Nails and Kissed by Mii are packed full of therapeutic benefits and give exceptional results. Massage treatments where the therapist uses pressure points and spiralling movements to relieve aches and pains such as the Walkers’ Leg Massage or a full body massage using Hot Stones, are perfect after a day exploring the Lakeland Fells.
Or opt for one of the new tailored packages such as the Wellbeing Spa Day – which starts with a consultation with the spa therapist to help choose a treatment, whether it’s to help promote sleep, deep relaxation or to boost energy.
Full day Spa packages include a light lunch in the refurbished Underscar Bistro, full use of the facilities from 9.15am to 5pm, towel, robe and slippers to use for the day and complimentary drink after your spa treatment. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym.
The Bistro and bar have undergone a complete refurbishment and now boast vibrant, contemporary decor. The colourful, textured wallpaper, stylish exposed light bulbs and comfy furniture have transformed the bistro into a warm and welcoming space. Thoughtful touches such as the work of Keswick artist, Penny Fowler, which is displayed on the walls, add to its homely and informal atmosphere.
The Bistro offers an informal dining experience with a new menu offering breakfast, lunch and light bites that make the most of locally sourced Cumbrian produce and is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Operations Manager, Jo Harris says; “We are excited to be relaunching the spa and bistro with this fresh new look and feel. One of the reasons for the name change was that a lot of people know where Underscar is, but they didn’t necessarily know where Oxley’s was. It makes for a much simpler and stronger identity. With the refurbishment adding a warmer ambiance to the already peaceful environment that Underscar offers, it makes it an ideal location for unwinding and escaping the chaos of everyday life, whatever the time of day.”
