HAVE you got a head for heights? Fancy taking a leap of faith and help to raise funds for a good local cause? Then Carlisle Mencap would love to hear from you!
As a grand finale to the charity’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Carlisle Mencap is looking for people to come forward to join in a sponsored bungee jump on Sunday, June 16 as part of a bumper weekend of fundraising fun.
The bungee jump is open to anyone aged 14 and over (people aged 16 and under must have a parent/guardian present and over 50s require a doctor’s certificate) who is in good health. It will be overseen by experienced adventure company Extreme Sensations and takes place from a 145ft crane.
The jumps will take place at Creighton Rugby Club in Sycamore Avenue, Carlisle, and will be part of a Summer Fun Day on Sunday, June 16. There will also be stands, gift stalls, children’s entertainment, refreshments and a bar.
As a warm-up to Sunday’s event, a fundraising rock concert for Carlisle Mencap will take place at The Brickyard in Fisher Street, Carlisle, on the Saturday evening, June 15, featuring Are You Experienced? – Europe’s top Jimi Hendrix tribute band.
Phil Taylor, Carlisle Mencap’s events and fundraising manager, said: “We’d love people to come forward and take the plunge by getting sponsors and then experiencing the thrill of a bungee jump. Extreme Sensations are the best when it comes to adrenalin-rush events like this, so it is not to be missed.
“We believe it will be all part of a memorable June weekend as we’re also thrilled to have the very talented John Campbell and his Jimi Hendrix tribute band taking to the stage at The Brickyard the previous night. Quite an experience – literally!”
Carlisle Mencap provides support and services for more than 500 adults and children with learning disabilities and their families across Cumbria, including running three centres for children in Carlisle, Penrith and Ulverston, and an adult centre at California House in Carlisle.
