Firefighters tackle Great Asby blaze

At 7:40pm on Monday 8th April, one fire engine from Appleby fire station and one from Kirkby Stephen were called to reports of a fire at Great Asby.

On arrival crews discovered a fire involving a detached stone outbuilding containing wood which was well alight.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews used one hose reel, two short extension ladders, two drag hooks and portable lighting to cut away the roof and extinguish the fire.

“Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour and five minutes.”
