The pharmacy provider moving into the new £12m Alfred Barrow Health Centre has been announced as Boots.
The facility which will be situated on the site of the former Alfred Barrow School, is bringing together a number of primary and community health services in a modern state-of-the-art building.
As well as bringing together three GP Practices (Abbey Road Surgery / Atkinson Health Centre / Risedale Surgery), services provided by Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, there will also be a Boots pharmacy onsite to make it easier for patients needing prescriptions and for those seeking assistance for minor ailments.
The health centre will also house facilities for the North West Ambulance Service and occupational health services for BAE Systems.
Dr Geoff Jolliffe, Barrow GP and NHS Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group Clinical Chair said: “Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who are experts in medicine so we’re over the moon that a Boots Pharmacy will be opening in the Alfred Barrow Health Centre.
“All Pharmacists train for 5 years in the use of medicines so they can offer clinical advice and over-the-counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses, such as coughs, colds, sore throats, tummy troubles and aches and pains.
“This is another step forward in ensuring the Alfred Barrow Health Centre is a one-stop shop for all. Bringing together all these services under one roof is going to be hugely beneficial to the people of Barrow.”
Ghada Beal, Director of Stores – North, Boots UK, said: “We are excited to confirm that we are the pharmacy provider in the new Alfred Barrow Health Centre. It will be great for the local community to have so many services under one roof and collaborating in one space. We look forward to the completion of the centre and being able to offer our services to the people of Barrow.”
