Hindley Ladies 2 – 4 Penrith AFC Development
For the second year running Penrith AFC Development have secured promotion after finishing as Runners Up in the Championship Division. This means that next season they will compete in the Premier Division of the Lancashire County Women’s League. Manager Matt Owens said “Its a massive achievement for such a young squad. I’m so proud of them. Their commitment to games and training has been exceptional and they have consistently performed well all season”
At kick off, both Penrith and Hindley were in contention for the remaining promotion spot. Hindley knew they had to win while a draw would be good enough for Penrith to progress.
Penrith seemed nervous in the first half and struggled to get going against a good Hindley team. Indeed Hindley took full advantage of Penrith’s slow start to take the lead and led at the half time break.
HT 1-0
Into the 2nd half Penrith upped their game and equalised through Jazz Campbell-Flynn.
Hindley responded and again took the lead 2-1. With 20 mins remaining time appeared to be running out for Penrith’s promotion ambitions. However Hindley were tiring and Penrith ceased their moment.
Two exceptional quickfire strikes from player of the match Jodie English turned the game on its head. The equaliser came from long range after the keeper blocked the initial effort, English followed in and fired past the stranded keeper from distance. Only 2 minutes later English got on the end of Bea Jackson’s free kick and turned the ball home.
Penrith were now rampant and finished the game in style as English set up Zoe Glendinning for a superb volley to seal the victory and with it promotion.
