Police appeal after man attacked in Carlisle

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Carlisle.

It took place on Annetwell Street, opposite Carlisle Castle, just before 8pm last night (May 2). A man spat at another man and then assaulted him following a confrontation between the two.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The victim did not suffer any serious injury and did not need hospital treatment.

“The attacker left on foot afterwards, heading along Castle Way in the direction of Caldewgate.

“He was white, about 5ft 5ins to 5ft 8ins tall, aged 60 to 70 and was slim, with grey stubble. He had short-to-mid-length grey hair, which was bald on top. He wore grey or green trousers and possibly a fleece.

“Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the assault take place or saw anything suspicious around this area at this time to come forward.”

Call DC Dawn Grant on 101 with information, referring to incident 207 of May 2.
