Man arrested after woman raped in Carlisle

Police are appealing for witnesses as part an investigation into a rape that occurred in Carlisle.

The incident occurred between 10:30pm and 11:00pm on Friday 3rd May at the car park to the rear of Matalan and The Pools Swimming Baths on James Street.

The victim, a woman in her 30s from the local area, is being supported by officers.

A 22-year-old man, from Carlisle, was arrested on suspicion of rape and affray. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses who have been in the area between 10pm and 11:30pm to come forward.

Enquiries have revealed both silver and red-coloured cars were seen in the area and police would like to speak to the occupants of these vehicles. Officers would also like to hear from anyone else who walked through the area between the times who can assist with enquiries.
