Firefighters tackle Carlisle riverbank fire

One fire engine from Carlisle West attended reports of a fire in the open on Rome Street, Carlisle.

Fire crews were called at 7:44pm yesterday, Wednesday 15 May.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “On arrival crews found approximately 50 metres of riverbank well alight.

“Crews used a hose reel jet, a water back pack and a 9 metre ladder to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for approximately forty minutes.”
