On Sunday 26th May Eden Animal Rescue held an Open Day inviting the public to come and see their facilities, meet their current animal residents and help to support their work.
Despite the fact that the weather changed rapidly from dry and warm to wet and windy in the run up to the day, the event itself was a treated to mostly dry but very windy weather. But the public were not put off by the weather and turned up in good numbers to visit the site at Moorlands Head Farm near Temple Sowerby.
Besides the popular food stalls and coffee shop there were stalls selling a variety of produce, cards and jewellery as well information from our veterinary supporters Frame, Swift and Partners. In addition to presence of the Cumbria Fire and Rescue staff from Appleby the public got to see how the Centre functions when 4 kittens found abandoned in a field were brought into the Cattery by a member of the public during the event.
The Chair of Trustees, Sandra Taylor, said: “I am delighted to say that despite the weather the public helped to raise over £2200 to help our work and we are very grateful for their generous support. We also had a number of people who expressed an interest in becoming volunteers at the Centre and so join the great team doing vital work for our animals. The Centre is a charity and relies on dedicated staff and volunteers supported by the wider public to save pet animals from a wide range of difficult circumstances. We had people bringing their dogs, originally adopted from the Centre, to show how happy they were and to remind everyone what we are trying to do for all our animals.”
Centre manager, Sarah Bean said: “The day produced a great result and was the result of hard work by everybody involved. I would like to thank the Village Bakery at Melmerby for their generous support to our catering facilities, which proved very popular.”
