One of the largest events of its kind in the region will see a university campus transformed by 150 artists.
The University of Cumbria’s Institute of the Arts will host its annual Summer Degree Show.
The event is the culmination of final-year degree students’ hard work whilst studying at the Brampton Road campus in Stanwix, Carlisle.
An excellent opportunity to view the work of some of the best up and coming talent, the event will display the work of those who are completing BA (Hons) courses in digital arts, film and television, fine art, graphic design, illustration, photography, travel and adventure media and wildlife media.
Final preparations are taking place. Students are transforming different departments of the Brampton Road campus in readiness for the Summer Degree Show, which opens to the public on Saturday 1 June.
Visitors will be able to collect maps at campus reception and take a self-guided tour to enjoy the artists’ works.
Students who will be exhibiting at the New Blood and Free Range shows in London in July – two events which showcase the nation’s emerging artists – are displaying some of their chosen work in the Vallum Gallery, situated next to the main reception of the Brampton Road campus.
Steve Ogden, principal lecturer and show organiser, said: “We’re excited to be hosting the Summer Degree Show. Once again The Vallum Gallery will present the work of our London showcase students, those individuals who we’ve selected to exhibit at two major industry events this summer that attract thousands of leading figures each year.
“Our departments have also been transformed by the students into one huge exciting creative space which is open to the public.
“The Summer Degree Show proudly celebrates the continuing success of the arts provision within the university and the outstanding work and talent of our students.”
A preview evening for family, friends and invited guests takes place on Friday 31 May, 6pm-8pm.
To complement the preview evening, year 1 and year 2 musical theatre students will be delivering performances at the on-campus Stanwix Theatre from 5pm. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis from the box office.
The Summer Degree Show is open from Saturday 1 June to Saturday 8 June (excluding Sunday 2 June). Admission is free and galleries are open 10am-4pm daily.
The Institute of the Arts Brampton Road campus is also holding an open day on Saturday 8 June for prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students from 10am-2.30pm. To reserve a place on the open day, visit https://bit.ly/2DzF91W
