Following a number of celebrations, from afternoon teas to guided walks, Rusland Horizons is preparing for their last two events that will showcase and share the hard work and achievements of the last three years. To celebrate their community-led heritage and conservation projects, Rusland Horizons is planning a fascinating Woodlands and Wildlife talk, and a fun day of Woodland Crafts and Tales.
Learn about the discoveries and work to conserve habitats, wildlife, landscapes and heritage of the Rusland Valley. Many interesting findings will be shared during an evening of Woodlands and Wildlife talks on Thursday 6th June, which is free to attend. Hear about butterflies and moths, dormice, red squirrels, hay meadows, woodlands, what’s hidden in the hedgerows and much more!
Get hands-on with local heritage, at Stott Park Bobbin Mill, with a day of traditional crafts and skills. The Woodland Crafts and Tales event, on Saturday 8th June, will feature music from Scrogans Run, woodfired pizzas and the chance to try feltmaking, willow basket making, wood carving and blacksmithing, to name a few. No need to book, just come along, join in and enjoy.
Over the last three years, Rusland Horizons has worked with volunteers, the local community and key partners to deliver 15 projects within the Rusland Valley. Each project has had a significant and positive impact on the wildlife, landscapes and people living, working and visiting the area. The projects ranged from conservation, training apprentices, woodland management, wildlife and archaeological surveys to recording the memories of older residents, teaching heritage skills and creating walking trails.
“It has been an incredible three years of learning, discovery and achievement,” said Colin Barr, Chairman, Rusland Horizons Partnership. “It is testament to the community spirit that there is an enthusiasm and commitment to carry on the good work, even after the Lottery Funding runs out. The newly-formed Rusland Horizons Trust, a charitable company, will be working hard to ensure the long-term success of Rusland Horizons.”
