Teenagers arrested in Appleby rape investigation released on bail

Two teenagers who were arrested by officers investigating a serious sexual assault in Appleby on Thursday, May 30, have been bailed with strict conditions.

The incident was reported to police shortly after 8.30pm on Thursday and officers swiftly arrested two teenagers aged 14 and 15 on suspicion of rape of a girl under the age of 16 and sexual assault.

The two arrested males are from outside the county.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The pair have been bailed whilst officers continue to progress the investigation.

“The conditions of their bail include that they leave Cumbria and reside outside of the county.

“Detectives continue to ask that anyone who has information about this incident but has yet to come forward does so immediately.”
