Two arrested after Carlisle jewellery shop raid

Two men have been arrested in connection with a robbery at a jewellery shop in Carlisle city centre.

The two arrested men are in custody following investigations this afternoon into a robbery at St Nicholas Galleries in Bank Street at about 2.20pm today (June 6).

Initial reports suggested three people were involved in this incident but it has now been confirmed there were only two.

Officers continue to appeal for information and are asking people to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Harkins said: “We can confirm that following swift actions by officers this afternoon two men are now in custody.

“We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this incident.

“This is a busy part of the city centre so we would urge anybody who saw anything suspicious in this area to contact us.

“If anybody saw anything that might be relevant please contact us on the numbers below.”

A blue Ford Fiesta, registration FM66 RYB, was involved in the incident.

It was abandoned in the Chiswick Street area in the city centre.
