Police reassure public after Whitehaven incident

Police have found nothing suspicious after carrying out extensive searches in West Cumbria this evening following a report of a sighting of a man with a firearm.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The report, at 6.47pm, suggested a man with a firearm was in the area of Wilson Pit Road, Whitehaven.

“A full search of the area, supported by the precautionary deployment of armed officers, was carried out and nothing suspicious has been found.

“Police would like to reassure people there is no perceived risk to the public at this time.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, referring to log 199 of June 12.
