Our three Ormsgill Councillors have been involved in the latest community meeting in the ward, talking to residents along with officers from the Borough and County Councils, the Police and Furness Refugee Support. The Meeting took place at Ormsgill Community Centre on 12th June.
The meetings continue to be a really good example of positive community spirit and partnership working. We heard how residents are passionate about dispelling the negative perceptions of the estate and want to make their community a great place to live for all. Syrian families attended for the first time and were warmly welcomed by everyone. After the negative publicity of late it was fantastic to see a large turnout and a meeting that was full of positive conversations.
Ormsgill has a wonderful community spirit and our councillors are working hard with the community and other partners to make the estate a great place to live.
Bill McEwan, one of the Ormsgill Councillors, said: “It is fantastic to be part of such a well-attended, positive meeting. To see so many organizations coming to work with our residents in such an open way is brilliant to see. We have had our troubles in the ward but we are all determined to move things forward and to keep Ormsgill a place that we are all proud to live in.”
Meetings are monthly and the next meeting is 10th July at 6pm at Ormsgill Community Centre.
