Saturday 15th June 2019 marked the fiftieth anniversary of the most tragic event in Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team’s history.
At approximately 12:30 on the 15th June 1969 there was an unprecedented rock fall at Low Crag where the team was training, one team member John ‘Jock’ Thompson was killed in the incident, and a second, Michael Stephenson, died of his injuries the following day.
Yesterday, Team members past and present gathered, along with friends and family members at Low Crag, Buttermere, to take part in a short remembrance service and lay a wreath for those who had lost their lives.
