A group of daring dads have chomped their way through a pile of humungous Yorkshire Puddings as they took part in a special Fathers’ Day challenge at Tweedies Bar & Lodge.
Inspired by this weekend’s World Championships of Yorkshire Pudding Eating in the white rose county, the Grasmere-based hotel was the venue for a Lake District version of the content.
Five plucky participants took part, polishing off almost 25 of the tasty treats in ten minutes. A visitor from Newcastle triumphed with his total of six Yorkshire Puds, although he had already started a seventh.
Aimee Jones, from Tweedies, says, “The UK’s competitive eating scene is on the rise, so we thought it would be fun to get some friendly competition going for the crowds on Fathers’ Day.
“Sunday lunch is one of our specialities and our epic Yorkshire Puddings are always a big talking point, so it was the perfect challenge for some would-be super eaters. Our winner, Warren, devoured the most in the ten-minute time limit and it was a really great atmosphere.
“We had five competitors this time round, but it was a big success and we’d certainly like to try and make it a Father’s Day tradition for the future!”
