A woman has died following an incident on the Carlisle to Newcastle railway line.
British Transport Police were called to an area of rail track in Great Corby at 9.21pm yesterday, Thursday 20 June following a report of a casualty on the tracks.
A BTP spokesman said: “Paramedics attended but sadly a woman, aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
“The woman’s next of kin are aware and officers are in the process of preparing a report for the coroner.”
The line was blocked between Carlisle and Hexham while emergency services dealt with the incident.
