Piper Hole meadow open day

Every year organisations and individuals across the UK grant access to their wildflower meadows allowing people to visit during this annual celebration of meadows. National Meadows Day helps to raise awareness of the importance of meadow conservation of this fast-disappearing habitat.

As part of this celebration, Piper Hole Farm in Ravenstonedale will be opening its meadows on Saturday 6th July from 10:30am until 6pm. Children’s activities will run until 4:30pm. People will have the opportunity to take part in scenic walks, guided and self- guided and see a breath taking display of wildflowers and insects at these magnificent meadows.

Piper Hole is one of only a few examples of meadow habitat in the country left undamaged by agricultural intensification. It is a traditional family run hill farm set on the borders of the Westmorland Dales and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks at Ravenstonedale. The farm is “holistically” managed and has been for several generations with no artificial inputs. The meadows were recognised as Cumbria’s first “Coronation Meadows”. This was an appointment by HRH the Prince of Wales to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Coronation; meadows in each county being identified as “jewels in the crown”.

Piper Hole Farm is located on Town Head Lane, Ravenstonedale, Cumbria. This event is supported by The Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme and Cumbria Wildlife Trust with grant support provided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
