Teddy BearGanza at Muncaster Castle

For teddy lovers everywhere, a month of teddy bear themed events at Muncaster Castle:

Over 80 Teddy Bears have successfully stormed the Castle and are now enjoying living there alongside the slightly bear-wildered Pennington family who have previously held the Castle on their own for well over 800 years.

During July, the bears and family are holding a BearGanza, including a display in the Drawing Room showing the whole bear collection in their luxurious new habitat.

The Muncaster Teddy Bears are a collection of 80+ Lakeland Bears which were loving created by husband and wife John and Wendy Phillips in the 1980s and 90s. Each bear is an individual personality, is fully jointed and dressed in their own unique handmade outfit.

Having been home to real-life Himalayan Moon Bears, in the 1970s and 80s, the family are finding the latest bears, who arrived from Windermere in April, smaller and generally better Castle-trained, even though they are popping up all over the Castle and generally taking over.

The BearGanza display in the Castle Drawing Room is at no extra charge to holders of general admission tickets including Castle entry, plus Friends of Muncaster and can be viewed Sunday to Friday 12 noon to 4pm from 1st to 31st July.
There will also be Teddy Bear Markets in the Castle on Sundays 14th and 28th July.

In addition, on Wednesday 17th July there is a Teddy Talk in the Castle with local specialist Ingrid of Ravenglass company Austrobear, talking about her work in teddy restoration and offering advice on valuation and restoration. This is a ticketed event with limited places.
