The A595 Distington bypass has reopened following a collision this morning (July 3).
The collision, which involved a motorcycle and a car, occurred just after 6am.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The motorcyclist, a man, aged 30, of Whitehaven, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
“His injuries were serious but are not thought to be life threatening at this time.
“The driver of the Volkswagen Polo involved, a woman, sustained minor injuries and was checked at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
“Motorists are thanked for their patience while the road was closed.”
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 6:11am two fire engines from Whitehaven attended reports of a road traffic collision with vehicles on fire at Distington, Whitehaven.
“On arrival crews found one motorcycle well alight which was extinguished using one hose reel.
“Crews were in attendance for approximately 20 minutes.”
