THE trial of a man accused of causing the death of an elderly cyclist in South Cumbria by careless driving has been delayed until later this year.
Nathan James Holme, 24, faces one allegation which he denies. This alleges that he drove an Audi A3 on the A6, at Milnthorpe, “without due care and attention, and thereby caused the death of Joseph Eric Park”.
This charges arises out of an incident on March 7 last year when the Audi and 74-year-old cyclist Mr Park – who was known as Eric – were in collision on Church Street, close to its junction with St Anthony’s Hill.
Holme, of Broad Ing Crescent, Kendal, had been due to stand trial in front of a jury in the week of July 29 at Carlisle Crown Court.
His case was mentioned in court today (WED) in front of Judge James Adkin, who heard that a prosecution witness was not available to attend.
As a result, the trial was postponed.
It is now due to start at the crown court on November 13 and, it is estimated, will last around three to four days.
