Man arrested following incident at Allonby

Police were called at approximately 9:30pm to the report of an incident in the area of Allonby beach.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A 34-year-old man from Sunderland was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and attempted grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.

“A 34-year-old man from Durham suffered minor injuries.

“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

Posts on social media said the man had an axe and there had been a fatality, Cumbria Police confirmed no one had been killed and due to the incident still being investigated they were unable to confirm if the man was in possession of an axe.
