This summer Cumbria Police’s Student Police Constables will be testing their fitness and stamina as they raise money to help children across the county with life limiting illnesses.
On Saturday 17 August the group of fundraisers will travel to Shap Abbey for the Survival of the Fittest The Lakes. On the day the Student Police Constables will tackle a wide range of challenging obstacles, including the Washing Machine, Stunt Jump and the Wall of Fame, as they raise money in aid of Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
The Police Students explained “We decided to support Jigsaw as it is Cumbria Constabulary’s chosen charity. As new recruits we are asked to work together as a team to raise money for the chosen charity. The hospice provides one to one care for children and young adults with life limiting illnesses, the money raised will help with their care and support.
“It was a team decision to take part in Survival of the Fittest. We thought it might be fun at the same time as well as a team building exercise, whilst contributing to a worthy cause.”
Everybody taking part in Survival of the Fittest The Lakes will have their own reasons for taking part. Whether it is to raise money for charity or to complete a personal challenge they will all be united as they overcome the obstacles. Now in its 12th year, Rat Race Survival of the Fittest is the longest running 10km obstacle running series anywhere in the world. For 2019 they are expanding the line-up with a brand new venue in The Lakes at Shap Abbey.
The Students continued, “We are most looking forward to getting to the end, but also having fun while knowing we are raising money for a great cause. However, we are not looking forward to the challenging course, the water and the mud.
“We are looking forward to the challenge, spending the day together and helping each other overcome the obstacles.”
The money raised by the Cumbria Police Student Police Constables at this year’s Survival of the Fittest The Lakes will help Jigsaw to provide care, support and activities to children and young adults with life limiting illnesses. This care and compassion are extended to all the children and young adults’ family, friends and carers.
