The A69 is closed in both directions due to a serious road traffic collision between Haltwhistle and Haydon Bridge.
Northumbria Police are on scene and an air ambulance has also attended.
The road is expected to be closed for several hours due to difficulties in recovering the lorry.
Eastbound traffic is advised to divert via the ‘Solid (Black) Square’ diversion symbol. Exit the A69 eastbound at the B630 (Greenhead Bank) junction then turn right onto the B6318 at Greenhead, travelling for approx. 16 miles towards Chollerford. Turn right at Chollerford roundabout, crossing the signal-controlled bridge then turn right onto the A6079 at Hexham. Continue on the A6079 through Wall and Acomb, rejoining the A69 eastbound.
Westbound traffic is advised to follow the ‘Solid (Black) Triangle’ symbol. This is the reverse of the eastbound diversion, via the A6079 (Acomb and Wall), B6318 (Chollerford) and B630
Local diversions may not be suitable for all traffic, and part of this is across a relatively high altitude route. Traffic from further afield is advised to consider using the A66 as an alternative route, which is suitable for all vehicles.
