Award-winning duo bring cabaret show double-header to West Cumbria

Je Regrette and Julie Madly Deeply

An award-winning duo will bring two hit cabaret performances to Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven, this month.

Je Regrette! is written and performed by Sarah-Louise Young and Michael Roulston and comes to the Moresby venue on Saturday 20 July. It tells the fictional story of La Poule Plombée, a troubled singer tortured by jealousy and unrequited love, supported by long-suffering accompanist Mumu.

This 70-minute show of original chansons, which weaves tales of obsession and loss with beautiful music and stunning vocals, was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe, winning The Stage Award and an Argus Angel Award.

The following afternoon, the pair present Julie Madly Deeply, a charming yet cheeky cabaret about the life of Dame Julie Andrews.

Songs from hit musicals such as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady are intertwined with stories and anecdotes about her life, from her beginnings as a child star to the challenge of losing her famous singing voice. What emerges is a funny and candid love letter to a true showbusiness survivor.

Written and performed by Sarah-Louise, with musical direction from Michael and directed by Russell Lucas, the show premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013, transferred to London’s Trafalgar Studios, enjoyed a major UK tour and was part of the inaugural Best of the Edinburgh Festival season at Toronto’s Panasonic Theatre in October 2014.

It comes to West Cumbria hot on the heels of a run in New York as part of the Brits Off Broadway season.

Sarah-Louise, a member of Olivier Award-winning Showstoppers and guest soprano with Fascinating Aïda, and Michael, accompanist to Dillie Keane, Dusty Limits and Meow Meow, have won Best Musical Variety Act in the London Cabaret Awards, Mervyn Stutter’s Spirit Of The Fringe Award and were named one of Time Out’s Top 10 Cabaret Acts of the Year.

Je Regrette! begins at 8pm on Saturday 20 July and Julie Madly Deeply is at 3pm on Sunday 21 July. Tickets available at rosehilltheatre.co.uk or 01946 692422.
