Driver killed in A1 crash

Police are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Northumberland.

Shortly after 3.20am today (Friday), police received a report of a road traffic collision on the A1 north of Alnwick.

Emergency services attended the scene and found a Volkswagen Golf had left the carriageway. The male driver, 25, was extracted from the vehicle, but sadly was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family are being supported by specialist officers, and a formal identification process is now underway.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision, and officers are now keen to hear from any motorists that were driving on the A1 at Denwick around that time.

Police are keen to receive any dashcam footage from those driving in the area at the time, and have asked for any witnesses to get in touch.
