Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, have announced the launch of their 598 service which will operate between Bowness Pier, Windermere Jetty Museum and Ambleside over the summer holiday period from Saturday 20th July to Sunday 1 September 2019.
Stagecoach operates a number of bus services in the Lakes, including the popular 599 open top tour bus travelling between Bowness and Grasmere and the 555 between Lancaster and Keswick, all offering visitors the opportunity to leave their car and see more of the Lakes. The addition of the 598 route for summer 2019 will help to drive visitors to the Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories, which opened its doors in April of this year, with a dedicated stop outside the museum along the route.
Mark Whitelocks, Managing Director for Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire announced the service “It is important to us to continue offering visitors and locals access to the sights and attractions the Lakes and surrounding areas have to offer, via a sustainable means of transportation. We want to actively support local businesses and initiatives along our routes to help promote and celebrate the individuality of our area, the addition of the 598 service to the Windermere Jetty Museum being the perfect example of this.”
Kat Parker, Windermere Jetty Manager welcomes the new bus service, “We are delighted that our visitors can now arrive by bus in time for the summer holiday season. This means people can arrive at the new museum on foot, by car, by boat and now by bus. We have a packed programme of summer activities and events so this is a great time to hop on the 598 and pay the museum a visit.”
The 598 will be operating a daily timetable over the six week summer holiday period, with scope for it to become a permanent fixture to the Stagecoach Lakes timetable in future seasons.
