A Wigton man has appeared at North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Carlisle charged with causing the death of Steven Parker, a man in his twenties also from Wigton by dangerous driving.
The accusation follows a collision on the A596 Wigton bypass on February 3 in 2018, which occurred between Station Road and Carlisle Bridge between a BMW car and a silver Vauxhall Corsa car, the BMW driven was by Mr Parker, he died at the scene.
The collision occurred around 4.50pm, and the road was closed for around six-hours.
There were two passengers in the BMW and they were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for treatment, a 20-year-old man was described by police at the time as in a serious condition, a 19-year-old man suffered minor injuries, minor damage was caused to the Corsa and its occupants were uninjured.
In court today (TUES) was Liam John Dixon, 26, of Throstle Avenue, Wigton, the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, as this case can only be heard at Carlisle Crown Court, District Judge Gerald Chalk directed the hearing will be held there on August 27.
Dixon was granted unconditional bail until that date.
A large number of Mr Parker’s family and friends were in court during the short hearing.
