Family pay tribute to ‘devoted family man’ who died in Wigton collision

Billy Hughes

The family of a man who died following a road traffic collision in Wigton have paid tribute to his life.

The family of William ‘Billy’ Hughes have paid tribute to a much-loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr Hughes’ family said: “Billy was a devoted family man, very active, and always willing to help in the local community. He dedicated much of his spare time to volunteering at St Cuthbert’s, his local church, which gave him great joy. His loving wife Alice, daughters Maureen and Jacqueline, and all the wider family, will miss him greatly.”

The collision occurred on Wednesday July 31 at approximately 4pm on New Street. Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen the van or Mr Hughes prior to the collision are asked to contact PC 2090 Craig Hynes on 101.
