Two well-known Youtubers, Joe Tasker and Lee Hinchcliffe, joined North and West Cumbrian young people on their NCS journey at Lakeside YMCA yesterday. (Tuesday 6th of August).
Catching up with the NCSers on their outdoor activity week, Joe and Lee took part in rock climbing, canoeing and rope swinging, while recording footage of their experiences.
Organised by National Citizen Service Trust and Inspira, the local careers management and personal development organisation in Cumbria and Lancashire, Joe and Lee were invited to experience NCS as the participants do.
“I wish I had done it in my summer holidays,” said Joe. “You get to meet loads of new mates, have team bonding things and loads of activities, I wish we had the full four weeks! What a way to spend your summer.”
Claire Benson, Marketing and Communications Manager for Inspira said: “It is great to have these YouTube influencers join us on NCS. The programme is so transformative for young people and to have the like of Joe and Lee support the experience, really shows the wide appeal of this particular youth movement.”
“I have really enjoyed myself,” commented Lee, “and I would really recommend young people to do it on their summer holidays.”
NCS is a three- or four-week programme which is part residential – a week doing outdoor activities, a week learning life skills then developing and implementing a social action project to benefit their local community.
So far this year young people have raised awareness about mental help, raised money for care packages, and local hospices, tidied gardens and sanctuaries and organised beach cleans.
