A boy has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after a glider crashed in the area of Cross Fell summit.

Police were called at approximately 2pm yesterday (Aug 7).

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A male, 15, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by air ambulance with injuries described as serious.

“The Air Accidents Investigation Branch are investigating.

“Police have assisted on site.”

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said last night they had sent a team to Cumbria.

An AAIB spokesman said: “The AAIB has sent a team to investigate an accident involving a glider that occurred near Kirkland, Cumbria.”
