Police have formally identified a man and a girl who died in a collision on the B5302 near Abbeytown.
Police were called at 1:30pm, to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision.
The collision involved a Vauxhall Astra and an HGV.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Andrew Frith, aged 58, and Jodie-Anne Frith, aged 15, both from Silloth, died following a collision involving a HGV yesterday (August 12) at about 1.30pm.
“Their family have been informed and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed.
“The driver of the HGV a 46-year-old woman from Carlisle was taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle as a precaution.”
Four fire engines attended the collision.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the casualties from the vehicles.
“Crews were in attendance for several hours alongside ambulance and police colleagues.”
