Calling all superheroes! Vulcan Park Family Fun Day is on Saturday 24 August and it has a very special theme: Be Your Own Superhero.
And the event will have a very special superhero in attendance. Olympic athlete Daniel Purvis will be leading a gymnastics workshop. The British gymnast was part of the team that claimed a silver medal at the World Championships in 2015. At London 2012 Daniel won Olympic bronze in the all-around team event as well as an individual world bronze in the floor.
The fun day will be located on the football pitch in Vulcan Park, Workington. Additional activities will include face painting, football skills, circus skills, storytelling and superhero themed craft activities. The first 100 children to arrive at the event will receive either free hot food or an ice cream. All activities are free of charge and admission to the event is on a first come first served basis, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Vulcan Park’s Bowling Club and the ‘Grow Well’ Community Garden will also be open during the fun day. The Bowling Club will run free sessions that are open for anyone to participate. No experience is necessary as club members will be around to demonstrate how the game works. The community garden will have free activities including seed sowing and bug hotel building. Volunteers trained at Newton Rigg College will be on hand with general gardening and composting advice.
The event is organised by Workington Town Council in partnership with local charity South Workington Youth Partnership. Vulcan Park Family Fun Day is supported by I Am Team GB and Myers & Bowman Ltd.
