Hundreds of students flocked to Lakes College to receive their English and maths GCSE results this morning as the college celebrated progress and fantastic results.
Unlike schools across the county, learners receiving their results at Lakes College are students who have retaken their exams having not achieved the grades they had hoped for on previous attempts. Learners were celebrating their results which help them to achieve their career goals, be that progression at college, higher education or simply a pass to add to their CV.
Sam Thompson scored a 6 in English and a 4 in Maths. He said “I’m happy it’s finally over.” Sam will be continuing with his Mechanical Engineering course in September alongside his friend Ben McCarten who passed his English GCSE. Ben said “I’m really happy with my grade – I got what I was hoping for.”
Francesca Harrison was delighted with her 4 in Maths and 5 in English. Daughter of Copeland MP Trudy Harrison, Francesca has already completed one year of a Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification at Lakes College. Her grades mean she is able to progress on to the college’s sought after Nurse Cadets programme where she will gain valuable work experience through a placement in the NHS while completing her course.
Jake Richardson was hoping for a 4 in English but exceeded all expectations achieving a fantastic grade 6 instead! He commented, “I’m absolutely chuffed, and this is the highest GCSE grade I’ve achieved.” Jake will be continuing his studies with Level 2 Plumbing at Lakes College in September.
Anna Lister, Head of Maths and English at the college commented: “We’re absolutely thrilled with our learners’ progress and results. Everyone has worked so hard throughout the year and today gives us all the chance to celebrate. Our students study their maths and English alongside their technical qualifications, and this may be their second, third or even fourth or fifth attempt at passing their exams, we’re so proud of their achievements and would like to congratulate everyone receiving their GCSE results today!”
