A Penrith man will be sent to Carlisle Crown Court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to assaulting a police officer.
Matthew Morton, 23, of Milner Mount, Penrith, admitted two-offences of assault by beating an emergency worker (police officer) on April 13 in Penrith, also one-offence of obstructing a officer in the execution of his duty.
Also on the same date he was in possession of a kitchen knife a sharply pointed article, during a short hearing it was stated the defendant was intoxicated at the time of these offences.
District Judge Gerald Chalk sitting in Carlisle Magistrates Court said his sentencing powers were inadequate, and that Morton will be sentenced on September 27 at Crown Court.
