YOUNGSTERS are invited to a fun event on Sunday (1 September) to help celebrate the opening of a fantastic revamped playground.
Abbot Hall Playground in Kendal is to be officially opened after a community effort to raise money to improve the site.
The Friends of Abbot Hall Playground – a group of local parents – worked with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) to provide a new and improved playground at the town centre park.
SLDC granted £20,000 to the project’s £125,000 total cost through its Locally Important Projects grant scheme and the Friends secured other donations and grants from the likes of South Lakes Housing and Kendal Town Council. Thirty thousand pounds came from a successful grant application from SLDC to The National Lottery Community Fund for a total of £200,000 to support eight playground projects in the district.
Sunday’s event will run from 2pm to 4pm, with speeches and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2.30pm, and there will be fun activities like face painting and other attractions.
SLDC’s portfolio holder for Customer and Commercial Services and People, Cllr Eric Morrell, said: “This is a wonderful playground and I applaud everyone who has been involved in the project, not least the Friends of Abbot Hall Playground. I hope as many people as possible will come along on Sunday to mark the opening and I am sure it will be well used for many years to come.”
