An exciting, one-off event for women aged 17 and over is taking place at Upper Eden Rugby Club in Kirkby Stephen this Friday the 20th September.
Inspired by the Cumbrian Girls Can Summit back in July, Upper Eden’s Women’s Rugby team, the Upper Eden Eagles, have joined forces with Shap-based Personal Trainer, Wiz Lees, to help more women in Eden get active with a unique evening of fun and fitness.
#EdenGirlsCan will kick-off with some short, inspirational films from Cumbrian Girls Can which were created and launched as part of the national This Girl Can campaign to encourage women to overcome the barriers stopping them from being active.
There will also be a brief talk about the campaign from Cumbrian Girls Can Project Lead, Katie Harper. Attendees will then head outdoors, where Wiz Lees will deliver a mini ‘bootcamp’ and coaches and volunteers from Upper Eden Rugby Club will give an introduction to the very basics of rugby.
After a good run around, the evening will continue back inside where a buffet will be served, courtesy of sponsors Taylor & Braithwaite, and a raffle drawn. A cash bar will be open and every attendee will receive a free raffle ticket.
Laura Kay, on behalf of Upper Eden Rugby Club said: “Our aim is to reach out and connect to as many women in the local community as possible, and support them to get active or try something new. The event is completely free to attend and also provides an opportunity to socialise with other, like-minded women. We look forward to seeing as many new and old faces as possible and want to encourage all women from Eden and surrounding areas to rally their friends and get involved.”
Anyone who wants to attend will need to register for their free place on Eventbrite – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/edengirlscan-tickets-72370121983.
