A person has died and another has been taken to hospital following a fire at Thwaites.
Officers were called at 8.55am today (October 16) following a fire at a property at Thwaites, near Broughton in Furness.
A man, 72, was taken to hospital following the fire. He is in a stable condition.
One person has been confirmed deceased. Officers are working to confirm their identity.
Joint inquiries are underway involving police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
Detective Inspector Matt Scott said: “We are treating the fire as unexplained at this stage.
“We are working closely with Cumbria Fire and Rescue investigators to establish the cause of the fire.”
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Severn fire engines, two water bowsers and one breathing apparatus support united attended a building fire in Thwaites near Millom.
“Crews used hose reel jets, main jets, ladders and light portable pumps to extinguish the fires.
“Crews were in attendance for several hours.”
The A595 has reopened.
