A Wigton man has admitted he drank 7-pints of cider and then got into his Ford Focus car to drive home.
District Judge Gerald Chalk, sitting at the magistrates court in Carlisle heard how Luke Dixon, 28, was driving home from the Throstles Nest public house in Wigton on October 19, when his car crashed into a hedge on the A596 Wigton by-pass, near Spittle Farm.
When police arrived Dixon admitted to driving the car and was unsteady on his feet and admitted he was drunk.
Dixon of Highfield Gardens, Wigton, admitted drink-driving, when breathalysed he gave a reading of 93-microgrammes of alcohol in 100-millilitres of breath over twice the legal limit of 35ml.
Lauren Heasley defending said her client, admits this was reckless and apologies and has shown remorse, he has mental-health issues and has had time to reflect on his actions and lifestyle and is seeking help, he is married and he will keep his job as road surface worker.
The judge commented that he understands that Dixon is now addressing his issues, he was placed on a Community Order for one-year and must complete 70-hours of unpaid work in the community, he was disqualified from driving for 24-months, if he attends the drink drivers rehabilitation course this could reduce his ban by 24-weeks, he has to pay court costs of £175.
