Furness College is throwing open its doors this month to give future students a taste of life on both its campuses.
The college, which has a world-class £47m campus at Channelside and a specialist sixth form at Rating Lane, will hold two open evenings to showcase its professional and technical courses, A level subjects and higher education courses.
Visitors will have a chance to tour the state-of-the-art facilities, meet staff and speak to students about their route to apprenticeships, university or future careers.
The first open evening will be at Barrow Sixth Form College Rating Lane campus on Wednesday 13h November and staff at the Channelside campus will host visitors on Wednesday 27th November. Both events run 5pm to 9pm.
Principal and Chief Executive of Furness College Andrew Wren said it was an exciting time to join the college.
“We have the biggest range of courses in Cumbria, so we know there is a place for every student at Furness College and a programme to help them achieve their own career aspirations and make a positive impact. Our Open Evenings are a chance for future students to get the right advice to make an informed choice on their next steps.
“Our sixth form students exceeded expectations in the summer achieving a bigger percentage of high grades than previous years and going on to secure first-choice places at universities, including Cambridge, and sought-after higher apprenticeships with local industry.”
The college was awarded an Ofsted GOOD rating earlier this year with inspectors commenting on the quality of education, outlining how tutors used their professional and industry experience to help students develop high level skills and praising the ‘caring culture’ of the college.
Visitors to the Channelside event will meet tutors and learners from all curriculum areas including engineering, construction, catering, hair and beauty, and sports will be on hand to give expert advice on the full-time and part-time courses and apprenticeships on offer.
They can tour the facilities including a restaurant-standard catering suite, hairdressing and barbering salon, engineering and construction workshops and sports facilities including gym, sports hall and 3G pitch.
The events are open to anyone from Year 10 and Year 11 pupils through to adults who want to enhance their career prospects. There will also be a chance to find out about the college’s university degree courses that can be studied at the Channelside campus in Barrow.
