As the country prepares to go the polls in the third general election in four years, Eden District Council is urging voters to be aware of the deadlines for taking part.
Voting for the UK Parliamentary General Election will take place on Thursday December 12 between 7am and 10pm.
If you want to vote and are not already registered to do so, the deadline for getting your name on to the register of electors is midnight at the end of Tuesday November 26.
You can register to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by requesting a register to vote form from Eden District Council’s Elections Office.
If you would like to vote by post you will need to apply, and the deadline is 5pm on November 26.
If you will be unable to vote in person because you will be away, working or because of a disability you can nominate someone to vote on your behalf. The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is 5pm on Wednesday December 4.
You can request postal and proxy voting forms from Eden District Council’s Elections Office, or by downloading a form from the Electoral Commission’s Your Vote Matters website.
