A record breaking 93.1kg Pudsey Bear marshmallow created by Fortnum & Mason confectioner Belinda Clarke for Children in Need is to be sold in slices at the Christmas in Cartmel celebrations this Friday.
The giant sweet was bought by Masterchef winner Irini Tzortogolou who resides in Cartmel and who wanted to help spread the sweetness a little further. The marshmallow was up for auction on Children In Need Day and Irini placed the winning bid of £550.
Irini explained her motivation; “I just thought it was a marvellous achievement, it was created by Belinda Clarke and schoolchildren from Berkhamsted and raised £1600 for Children in Need. I thought I could help raise even more funds for cause close to my heart so I bid and I was absolutely delighted when I won the auction. The beautiful and really very big marshmallow is now in Cartmel and ready to be eaten!
“All the funds raised from Pudsey and other activities at the Cartmel Christmas Day will be donated to the wonderful Cumbrian Children’s Hospice, Jigsaw. I will also be personally delivering a special slice to them so the children there can enjoy some too.”
Slices of the mega mallow will be available for a minimum £1 a slice at the Cartmel Village Society Stall at the Christmas in Cartmel celebration this Friday from 5pm onwards. The marshmallow is vanilla flavoured with a yellow tinted coconut for the fur and will be recognised as a World Record once some has been confirmed as eaten.
