A MAN was told he should prepare himself for a prison sentence after he admitted the illegal possession of both a Samurai sword and an axe.
Callum John Newton, 33, faced three charges when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court earlier today (THURS).
Newton admitted possessing an offensive weapon – the sword – and a bladed article – the axe – without lawful authority in a public place.
These charges are said to arise out of an incident at Wyndham Street in Cleator Moor on October 28.
No details about the criminal conduct were given during the short court hearing.
Judge Julie Clemitson adjourned the case and ordered the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.
Newton, of Cragg Road, Cleator Moor, was bailed and is due to be sentenced on January 31.
Judge Clemitson told him: “Carrying weapons such as these in public is likely to result in a custodial sentence. You should ready yourself for that.”
